With 20+ years of multifaceted expertise in corporate innovation, research, consultancy, academia, and public speaking, Dr Fotis Filippopoulos has left his mark in 17 countries on five continents. In February 2017, he received the Highly Commended Award for “Best Provision of Industry Information and Intelligence” at the European Association Awards in Brussels. This recognition was for his research on the Augmented Cooperative Economy, which was commissioned and co-branded by the leading cooperative organizations from Brazil, Canada, and Germany. The project involved 110 cooperatives across 18 sectors and 47 countries. The research was translated into six languages and is listed in HEC Montréal’s CoopGateway, the world’s largest digital library dedicated to cooperatives and mutuals.
As a Visiting Professor of Industrial Skills at the PhD school of Politecnico di Milano and of innovation management at the International Hellenic University in Greece, Fotis’s academic roles, in conjunction with his diverse international project portfolio, reflect his well-established expertise in innovation management, business transformation, advanced research methods, consumer behaviour research, and product development. Furthermore, he brings a valuable blend of strategic and innovative insights and toolkits from his formal training on innovation at MIT alongside PhD-level business research skills from UoG.
As a pioneer in neuromarketing research, he co-founded Delphi, one of the world’s first private consumer behaviour research centres, in 2006. From then until 2012, he led innovative fMRI-based commercial research in collaboration with Euromedica Enkephalos Chalandriou. Over a decade and a half ago, Delphi was listed as one of the world’s leading neuromarketing agencies in international literature.
He is an alumnus of the European Commission’s 2006 official internship program and currently offers his services as an innovation expert (EASME). From 2019 to 2021, he served as the European Commission’s high-level industrial policy advisor for the European Cultural and Creative Industries (DG GROW). As an MIT J-WEL network innovation member, Fotis is deeply involved in global innovation. His participation in several global MIT innovation-related programs, such as MIT Solve, the MIT Engineering Health Equity Hackathon, StartSmart CEE, StartSmartSEE, and the Solveathon workshop, is a testament to his commitment to driving global innovation.
On the global stage, as an expert and thought leader, he has given talks and presentations at the leading global forums and industry summits of their kind, such as the International Summit of Cooperatives 2016 in Quebec City, the World Credit Union Conference 2017 in Vienna, the Asian Leadership Conference 2021 in Seoul, as well as at iconic venues including the European Parliament in Brussels, the MIT Museum in Boston, and the JK Memorial in Brasilia.
The 11th Edition of the European Farmers’ Conference is the flagship biennial event of COPA COGECA with the aim of shaping the future landscape of European agriculture. As moderator of the main panel, I had the privilege to exchange knowledge and strategies for sustainable, innovative and competitive agricultural practices alongside distinguished industry leaders from across the EU. This Conference, organized in close collaboration with the Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation (AAC), is crucial in setting the course for the future of European agriculture, which supports over 22 million farmers and 22,000 cooperatives.

The photo captures a unique moment with the prominent board members of the Brazilian group Sicoob, Brazil’s largest cooperative financial system with more than 4.2 million cooperatives.
I received the Best Provision of Industry Information and Intelligence Award at the 2017 European Association Awards for the global research on Augmented Cooperative Economy conducted for the International Confederation of Popular Banks in Brussels with the participation of 110 Cooperatives from 18 sectors and 47 countries.
The research was commissioned, funded, and cobranded by the leading organisations of Desjardins (Canada), Sicoob (Brazil), and DZ Bank (Germany). It was translated into six languages and presented at the International Summit of Cooperatives 2016 in Quebec City and the World Credit Union Conference 2017 in Vienna. The research is listed in HEC Montréal’s CoopGateway, the world’s largest digital library on cooperatives and mutuals.
2016 was an important year for the International Cooperative Science and the AGI Cooperative Science Institutes. The 2016 IGT/ICCS international conference, which took place at the University and Cultural and Convention Center of Lucerne (KKL), was the largest event that AGI has held since its establishment, with an audience of over 1000 people. Presenting a study to such a large international audience does not happen often. Undoubtedly, it was a unique moment in my career.

The presentation of my global research for the banking industry at the 2015 CIBP International Conference in Rio de Janeiro holds a special place in my heart. It was the most challenging and exciting professional experience I have ever had, maybe to this day.
